Resolving internal hostnames on macOS

I have a Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Ultra (UCG-Ultra) as my router.  I had recently changed the DNS settings on my Mac to point to it as the primary DNS and 1.1.1.2 and 9.9.9.9 as secondaries.  host would resolve internal hostnames, but ping would not.  The problem is that macOS prioritizes DNSSEC so it was not using the the router for DNS since the router doesn't support DNSSEC.  Removing the secondary DNSs from the Mac fixed the problem and internal hostnames are now being resolved.

On the UCG-Ultra, I'm using Encrypted DNS set to "predefined": Cloudflare-security and Quad9-dnscrypt-ip4-filter-ecs-pri
